ATI graphics card boot problems

If you're experiencing boot problems or errors while trying to start X server, you could try to disable KMS at boot time by appending the following arguments to kernel parameters:

   radeon.modeset=0 nomodeset

Intel graphics card boot problems

The same problem has been encountered while using Intel based graphical chipsets such as i915. The solution is the same: disable the KMS.

    i915.modeset=0 nomodeset
